Urban features the work of Stephanie Kretzschmer, Guy Lafontaine, Robert McIntyre, Joachim Oepkes, David Edwards and Alan Dunlop. This exhibition focuses on the evolution of cities and humankind’s relationship to space.

What inspires you?
There are passing moments when something I see invokes a striking impression on me. Certain visual impressions inspire an awakened feeling: the object itself might simply possess traditional beauty, or perhaps seem iconic of a greater reality, or there might be just something one can’t quite put one’s finger on – the contrast of light, a shadow, a texture, a reflection. I might be walking downtown, passing by a garden, or cycling in an alleyway…
The juxtaposition and balance of opposites –organic vs geometric or manufactured, asymmetry vs symmetry light vs dark, order and chaos, urban vs natural, glossy newness vs patinas of the old interest me. Paintings more overtly depict our inner landscapes. In photography it is more difficult however certain techniques such as reflections in glass, common in the city, often work well – depicting 2 worlds – the object and a reflection of a word beyond.
